FAQ

How many Concerts can I participate in during the season?
Members have the opportunity to perform up to 8 times over 8 concerts over the 2026/2027 season.

Do I have to perform in every concert to keep my membership?
No. There are no maximum or minimum performance requirements. Refunds are not provided if you miss a concert.

Can I play the same piece at different concerts?
We encourage you to study a variety of different music and musical styles. You may repeat a selection one time at a future concert.

Can I bring my sheet music?
Students should plan to perform from memory and are encouraged to come performance-ready. Sheet music is not permitted however, we understand that there may be a time when you do require your sheet music. We will allow this once, but please have your piece memorized for your next performance.

Accompanists are always permitted to use sheet music.

Do I have to do anything before I play?
Yes. We ask that all students display proper stage etiquette during our concerts. This includes: introducing yourself, the title and composer of your piece, bowing prior to performing, and bowing after your performance.

Is there a dress code?
We ask that all students come performance ready and dressed for the stage in concert attire. Please note, that outdoor shoes are NOT PERMITTED on stage and performers must bring proper, indoor footwear.

How many pieces can I perform?
Beginners may perform up to 2 selections. Levels RCM 6 and above may perform 1 selection. Time limits are as follows to ensure everyone has the opportunity to perform:
Beginner (RCM prep -5): Up to 2 selections, up to 2 minutes of performance time
Intermediate (RCM 6-8): 1 selection, up to 5 minutes of performance time
Advanced (RCM 9+): 1 selection, up to *8 minutes

*Advanced club members (RCM Level 9 and above) may submit a piece longer than 8 minutes by request. If time permits during one of the two concerts we will make every attempt to accommodate longer performances. However, if time is limited, please be prepared with a shorter piece as an alternative.

Can I play in both concerts in one day?

You may register to perform in a second concert on the same day if you are performing on a different instrument, and this must be done by special request. There is no guarantee, and this will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

Additional entry costs are as follows:

Members: First time- no charge. Additional requests: $5 per concert

Non-members: $5 per concert in addition to $25 first concert fee

Can I change my piece once it is submitted?
You can change your piece up until the Friday before the Concert at 4:00pm. No changes will be permitted after this time.

If I am late to the concert, can I still perform? And, can I leave the concert early?
If you are late to your scheduled concert, you will be moved to the end of the program.
We ask that you stay to the end of the concert in order to provide the same audience experience for each student. If you absolutely must leave the concert early, please ensure you let Mackenzie know by 4:00pm on the Friday before the concert day. Changes to the program will not be made after this and on the day of the concerts the program will not be changed to accommodate any early departures.

Do the concert times ever change?
Occasionally, yes. If there is lower registration one month, the 2 concerts will be merged into one concert that will begin at 2:45pm. There also may be a time when a concert needs to be re-scheduled outside of our control (i.e., due to a snow storm). If this happens, we will make every effort to contact all performers as soon as we are aware of the date or time change.
