An Ottawa native, Brian An (pronounced “on”) “has quickly become a compelling hard bop trombonist with plenty to say on his horn” (Peter Hum, Ottawa Citizen). His previous appearances include The Rex in Toronto, the Ottawa International Jazz Festival and the National Arts Centre in Ottawa, and The Jazz Room and the Registry Theatre in Waterloo. Brian has also been interviewed by CBC regarding his career and performances. In addition to frequently performing as a leader, Brian is also a busy sideman; he is a member of the Espionage Orchestra, a tribute to the music of James Bond led by Juno award-winning trumpeter Ed Lister, and has performed with Broken Social Scene. He studied with trombonists Drum Hudson (Frank Sinatra, Paul Anka, Tony Bennett), Chris Glassman (Michael Bublé, Ulysses Owens Jr., Kurt Elling), and Doug Elliott (Airmen of Note). In addition to his musical pursuits, Brian studies Mathematics at the University of Waterloo.
Mark Ferguson is an Ottawa based pianist, trombonist, composer, arranger, producer, and music educator. He has performed with many of the world’s great artists including Ella Fitzgerald, Tony Bennett, Gil Evans, Nelson Riddle, Dionne Warwick, Natalie Cole, Tom Jones, Engelbert Humperdink, Rosemary Clooney, Carol Channing, Rob McConnell & the Boss Brass, Holly Cole, Manteca, The Funk Brothers and the National Arts Centre Orchestra. As a composer, his credits include the CBC television series Life & Times, Cottage Country, and On the Road Again. Mark has written musical arrangements for a wide range of groups including the National Arts Centre Orchestra, the RCMP Band, the Central Band of the Canadian Armed Forces, the HMCS Stadacona Band, the Winnipeg and Edmonton Armed Forces Bands, and his own Latin-jazz ensemble Los Gringos. He is a professor at Carleton University’s department of music.
