Muyang Li is a 15-year-old pianist from Ottawa whose musical achievements have distinguished him among Canada’s promising young pianists. He studies with internationally acclaimed pianist and educator Dr. Chunsun Park and has twice earned the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) National Gold Medal, receiving the highest mark in Canada in the Grade 10 piano examination in 2025 and the ARCT piano examination in 2026.
Muyang has earned top prizes at competitions including the Henle Piano Competition, the Canadian International Music Festival, and the Ontario Music Festivals Association Provincial Competition. In 2026 alone, he won 11 trophies, including the Best Overall Trophy at the Steinway Advanced Performance Competition and six trophies at the Toronto Music Festival.
Over the past year, Muyang has given four full-length solo concerts. A performance highlight was his appearance with Thirteen Strings Chamber Orchestra during the 2025 Music and Beyond festival, where he performed the first movement of Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 2 in B-flat major. His performance experience spans a range of settings, from retirement residences to Rideau Hall.
Beyond the concert stage, Muyang is committed to sharing music with his community. He volunteers his time to perform for residents of retirement homes, bringing live music to audiences who may have fewer opportunities to attend concerts. Through this ongoing volunteer series, he shares his love of music and creates meaningful connections with listeners across generations.
As an invited, inaugural member of the OVATION: Concert Artist Business Development Program, Muyang was selected to participate in masterclasses with distinguished pianists and educators, including Kyoko Hashimoto, Jamie Parker, Jon Kimura Parker, Phil Chiu, Jared Dunn, Alexander Panizza, David Jalbert, Charles Richard-Hamelin, Georgy Tchaidze, and Nicolas Namoradze. These opportunities have allowed him to learn from leading musicians while continuing to develop his own artistic voice.
An accomplished composer whose original works have received recognition, Muyang is particularly interested in twentieth-century Impressionist and modernist music. His interests also extend to drawing, origami, mathematics, and science. He is currently enrolled in the International Baccalaureate program at Glebe Collegiate Institute in Ottawa.
